The World Cup Versus Your Relationship - Who Won?

So your partner may not be the typical football or soccer fan, donning his teams colours week after week, spending the weekends travelling the length and breadth of the country in search of that elusive Three points which will take his or her team up the football league table, but few people could have failed to get caught up in the frenzy of the World Cup or Oh Africa. It was televised in countries for the very first time and viewing numbers are like lottery numbers.

The song itself evoked a passion which drew most people, even non footballing people into the spirit of the occasion. The energy seemed to lift people and give a sense of global national pride in peoples respective teams. An event like the World Cup can make whole countries proud and in some cases ashamed of their teams performance. But what about the performance of your partner, was the whole thing something you watched together, enjoyed and got into, or was it a case of World Cup Versus Relationship with the World Cup winning every game?

Some early polls suggest that the World Cup pushed relationships to the limit, some even suggesting it was the final nail in the coffin, with separation and Divorce on the cards. Some people mostly Women reported that their partner was a stranger from kick off to the final whistle. Other polls show that some couples and families used the occasion to be together more and share the experience and excitement together. There are stories of house parties and a community spirit where whole neighbourhoods came together and some lasting friendships may have sprouted from the event. Oh Africa, surely that must be a good thing?
